Champions in Action

                      Mission Statement

Champions in Action aims to create volunteer opportunities for St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Junior High and Senior High athletes, students and families to participate in meaningful service projects and programs within the parish and extended community consistent with Catholic social teachings.

           Champions in Action Goals

  • Enhance St. Pat's Athletic program to include opportunities for volunteer service
  • Make available service ministries for St. Pat's students that meet requirements for graduation and sacraments
  • Give St. Pat's students and alumni, and parishioners a chance to make a difference in the Toledo area
  • Collaborate with parish Ministries

Champions in Action Team up with Knights of Columbus to Clean-up

Calvary Cemetery

Rob Gilsdorf from Knights of Columbus invited the Champions in Action Group to join the Knights in a very unique service project. Thirty-three CIA volunteers teamed up with the Knights in cleaning a large number of headstones at Calvary Cemetery. The headstones are in a section of the cemetery reserved for the deceased priests and nuns who devoted their entire lives to serving Jesus through humanity.

Burying the dead is one of the seven Corporal Works of Mercy. The timing of this project was perfect as we'll soon be celebrating All Souls Day. The Knights set a great example for our Youth volunteers which made this collaborative effort a very meaningful service project.
